Schwartz et al., on behalf of the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) LEARN group, describe the history of educational research networks over time, including a summary of different practice-based research networks currently in existence.  The authors provide recommendations for centralizing resources, longevity, and practice parameters for these research networks.
